Since 1997
I have been learning the art of flamenco guitar accompaniment for
flamenco song and dance. For over ten years I learned from and performed
with
Arte Flamenco Spanish Dance
Company. I have also accompanied dance classes at the
Esmeralda Enrique Academy of Spanish Dance
and for Theatre Flamenco. I have performed in many Spanish restaurants
in Toronto and currently perform at
The
Plaza Flamingo Spanish Restaurant.
Performing
in
restaurants
has
given
me
the
opportunity
to
work
with
and
learn
from
many
independent
and talented dancers and singers.
The flamenco paintings here are inspired by my own experiences as a flamenco performer / artist and the characters are loosely based on real people. With this series I attempt to capture the dark soulful nature of flamenco, but at the same time poke a little fun at it. Just like with Bulerias (to jest) where a great deal of focus of tension must be employed to release the music, yet there is a teasing of any predictability.
